Being a "Great Place to Work" is Meaningful to Clients and Employees Alike

Two weeks ago, I got a call from Fortune Magazine and learned that HRG had been awarded the number 10 spot in the Great Places to Work in Healthcare.  I was overcome with pride and elation that the company I work for was awarded this prestigious award.  To be on the list with such great organizations as Texas Health Resources, Southern Ohio Medical Center, Baptist Health South Florida, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Scripps Health, and Atlantic Health System is such an honor.  Being the only revenue cycle vendor on the list adds even more meaning to this award.

I have been asked why this award means so much to me.  In looking at the top 20 list HRG is one of the few companies that are not centered on direct patient care.  In all my years in healthcare the business office and Health Information Management teams have been regarded as cost centers and less important than those who provide patient care.  This gives the employees a sense of lacking importance and kills motivation. 

As an employee-owned company we have worked hard to provide our employee-owners a sense of purpose and mission outside of just earning a paycheck.  Real employee satisfaction comes from a feeling of accomplishment and having real meaning in your work.  Our employee-owners know that by being successful in their day-to-day jobs they have an impact on hospitals, their communities and the overall health of our population.  By optimizing collections and protecting our clients from possible compliance issues we are impacting millions of patients and assuring their communities have a vibrant healthcare system.

HRG puts elevated focuses on two areas: client delight and employee satisfaction.  Blending those two passions into our everyday work has allowed us to continue to grow and win awards that recognize those efforts.  Achieving the number one rating by KLAS in 2010 as the vendor providing the best value was our first milestone award and now getting the Fortune Best Employer award validates our dedication to both our clients and our employee-owners.  The revenue cycle is the lifeblood of our client’s organizations and our employees believe in and continue to thrive in this mission.
