Position Summary:

The Hospital Admissions Specialist is responsible for obtaining appropriate eligibility and benefit information using various phone and online resources for HRG long term acute care hospital clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance coverage for all inpatient and observation bed admissions and initiate pre-certification with insurance companies; work with Utilization Review and/or hospital staff to assure eligibility and authorization requirements are completed within the required time frame

  • Make appropriate corrections in the patient account to ensure accuracy in order to prevent denials and/or problems with billing and reimbursement

  • Contribute to positive business results by maintaining a workplace characterized by high performance, mutual support, respect and teamwork

  • Regularly search for and identify opportunities for quality and process improvement resulting in improved efficiency, increased productivity and high customer satisfaction

  • Continuously ensure unresolved issues are communicated early and escalated to management at appropriate time

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of regulatory requirements for government and third party payers, including billing/payment guidelines as well as HIPAA requirements

Requirements:

  • At least one year of healthcare billing and hospital admissions experience

  • Knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare regulations

  • Proficient with 10-key and MS Office applications, including Excel

  • Must be willing to work until 6 pm Monday through Friday

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and a keen eye for detail

  • LTAC (long term acute care) billing and follow-up experience is a plus

  • Critical thinking and problem solving abilities

  • Responsible, reliable and accountable

  • Proficient with 10-key

  • Ability to make independent decisions

  • Ability to travel by automobile or commercial transportation

  • Ability to read documents and computer screens, potentially for extended periods of time

  • Dialing and responding to telephone or in-person inquiries and daily assignments

  • Sitting at a desk or computer terminal and writing, typing, keying and coding information

  • Proficient with data entry and multi-tasking in a Window’s environment
